Shinedown, Chevelle

The Carnival of Madness rocked Grand Prairie

Carnival of Madness made a stop in Texas on Sunday at Verizon Theater in Grand Prairie and the crowds were out in force. 10 YEAR, SEVENDUST, PUDDLE OF MUDD CHEVELLE and SHINEDOWN encompassed the tour and certainly gave us a great finish to the weekend.

Unfortunately I missed 10 YEAR but I was thrilled to catch SEVENDUST. After my interview with singer Lajon Witherspoon I was looking forward to the show and they did not disappoint. Showcasing some new songs as well as old favorites it was great to see the original band back together and the crowd made that known. SEVENDUST puts on one hell of a show and, admit, were my favorite of the night.

PUDDLE OF MUDD hit the stage next and though I think their stage show could have a little more oomph they were in good form. The crowd sang along with several of the numbers, especially their final song “Psycho”. It’s hard to tell which of the final two bands the crowd was more excited to see, CHEVELLE or SHINEDOWN. Though CHEVELLE’s stage set up was

minimal the crowd roared their approval and obviously loved every moment. The pit filled, the mosh pit formed, and the crowd surfing picked up. CHEVELLE also had a great mix of songs and it was clear some of their fans were more than die hard – especially the lady next to me who had – shall we say – interesting dances for each song. SHINEDOWN wrapped up the night with singer Brent Smith coming out in a top hat, jacket and walking stick that showed just what the ringleader of a Carnival of Madness might look like. Opening with “Sound of Madness” and finishing off with “Second Chance” the band had a great set and no one wanted the night to end.

Carnival of Madness is still on tour so be sure to check dates for other cities. This is one Carnival you don’t want to miss. And as always be smart and don’t get arrested for drinking and driving. Plan for a sober driver, take a taxi or use public transportation.
