Mayhem Fest heats up Dallas
Despite the temperatures over 100 degrees, fans turned out in full force last Friday for Mayhem Fest. And the bands were as hot as the weather.
Atreyu, In This Moment, Shadows Fall and Hatebreed – among others – rocked the side stages and as afternoon moved into dusk – the scorching sun began to go down – the crowd piled into Superpages.com Center’s amphitheater for the crowning event. Five Finger Death Punch took the stage first to roaring applause and despite sun in their eyes put on a great set. Lamb of God was next and the crowd chanted their name as the set change was quickly done. Again the heat and the sun didn’t stop the band from putting on a killer set and the crowd from enjoying the show and starting a mosh pit.
Of course everyone had been waiting for the two headliners. With a curtain hiding the stage the set change was done – and what an interesting set it was. Skelton microphone stands, with the center mic being a skeleton with six arms, and a large robot dominated the stage and amongst smoke and fire Rob Zombie stepped out of it wearing a skull mask and a long skeleton arm. The mass amounts of pyro combined with the heat of the day made for a hot set in more ways than one and was capped off with a huge explosion of confetti that littered the crowd and ground around the stage. Korn rounded out the night with a massive stage set of their own – consisting of working oil rigs and flames and capped off the day with a rousing set list consisting of such songs as “Right Now”, “Freak on a Leash”, “Clown” and “Got the Life”.
Heat or no you can’t stop heavy metal fans from getting their musical fix.
